- Douglas Stuart and Marlon James return to the 2026 Booker longlist alongside three-time nominee Elizabeth Strout, with James longlisted for his fifth novel The Disappearers (a 1980s Jamaica-set reckoning) and Stuart for his third, John of John; either would become only the fifth author to win the Booker twice.

- Judging panel chair Mary Beard is joined by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, poet Raymond Antrobus, novelist Patricia Lockwood, and Guardian journalist Rebecca Liu; the shortlist will be announced at London's Southbank Centre on 22 September, with the winner named 9 November from 163 submitted titles.
