- Alyla Browne and Elsa Pataky lead the ensemble cast of Chiquita, reuniting the pair from Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
- Kiah Roache-Turner wrote and directs the film, based on a story by Mark Morrissey, centered on a rebellious teenage girl who bonds with a mistreated rescue horse in the world of endurance horse riding
- Michael Caton, Stephen Peacocke, Martin Sacks, and rising actor Aswan Reid join the ensemble alongside the lead duo
- Screen Australia, in association with Screen NSW, is providing production investment, with additional financing from Obsidian Creek Capital and international sales handled by Essential Film Group
- Umbrella will release the film in Australia during the 2027 summer school holiday corridor
- Bronte Studios is producing via Blake Northfield and Michelle Krumm, alongside First Option Pictures' Mark Morrissey
Why it matters: Chiquita marks a high-profile reunion of Furiosa cast members backed by Australia's major public funding bodies, with Essential Film Group positioning the title for international buyers — giving Roache-Turner a bigger-canvas family film after her horror work, and giving Brown another studio-scale lead after Furiosa.
