- A Time was unveiled by Taiwanese director Tsao Jui-yuan at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest after eight years of development, drawing on the country’s 1970s campus folk music movement to span four decades of friendship, love and personal transformation.
- Ning Chang stars in “A Time” and took on her first executive-producer role, joining Jerry Yan, Chen Yi-han, Golden Horse best actor winner Wu Kang-ren and Liang Cheng-chun as two generations of actors portray five friends at different stages of life.
- A Time, written by Chi Hsi-lin, follows the five friends after Si Mao is injured diving into an empty swimming pool; he lies in a coma for decades while the others face love, guilt and personal struggles, eventually reuniting as long-buried secrets emerge.
- Lucas Wong makes his acting debut as the younger Si Mao, training in diving, guitar and dancing for the role; he is the first Hong Kong-born artist to debut with South Korea’s SM Entertainment and was formerly a member of NCT and WayV.
- Joseph Huang, who plays the younger Mian Yang, said dance movements challenged all five younger cast members; together they performed the Taiwanese folk song “Seasonal Rain” and recreated a dance sequence from the drama at the press conference.
- Tsao Jui-yuan said the project began with his desire to come to terms with his own youth and called campus folk music one of contemporary Taiwan’s most important cultural IPs; Ning Chang described him as an “actor scanner” who detects minute changes in performers’ emotional states.
- A Time’s production brings together more than 30 creative professionals whose work has been recognized by the Golden Horse, Golden Bell and Golden Melody awards and international festivals; the series is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Why it matters: For Tsao Jui-yuan and the “A Time” team, the eight-year project brings Taiwan’s 1970s campus folk tradition into a two-generation, 40-year drama series premiering in 2027. Its production includes more than 30 award-recognized creatives and a cast ranging from established names such as Ning Chang to first-time actor Lucas Wong.
