- ABC scheduled its midseason run to open on Tuesday, Jan. 5 with Will Trent Season 5 at 8 p.m., High Potential Season 3 at 9 p.m. and the Surviving a Scandal premiere at 10 p.m.
- High Potential was the top-rated drama among adults 18-49 during the 2025-2026 season and will also air a special episode set on Valentine’s Day immediately after Super Bowl LXI on Feb. 14 at 10:15 p.m.
- Surviving a Scandal explores the long-term effects of relentless public scrutiny on people whose private lives became tabloid fodder, including Milli Vanilli, Octomom and Joey Buttafuoco; Glass Entertainment produces it for ABC News Studios.
- The Rookie, ABC’s longest-running current series, returns for Season 9 on Jan. 6 at 9 p.m., after Shifting Gears’ two-episode Season 3 premiere at 8 and before the Jay Ellis-led spinoff The Rookie: North at 10.
- The Bachelor moves to Sundays with its Season 30 premiere on March 21 at 8:01 p.m.; What Would You Do? Season 18 follows at 10:01, marking the franchise’s first entry since Bachelor in Paradise in summer 2025.
- American Idol premieres its 25th season on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m., following the Feb. 1 anniversary special American Idol at 25; Shark Tank is scheduled at 10 p.m. in a new time period.
- 9-1-1 returns for Season 10 on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m., followed by 9-1-1: Nashville at 9 and Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 at 10; Abbott Elementary Season 6 returns Jan. 13 at 8:31 p.m.
Why it matters: For ABC, the Jan. 5 sequencing matters: the network places High Potential—the top-rated drama among adults 18-49 in the 2025-2026 season—at 9 p.m. immediately before the 10 p.m. premiere of Surviving a Scandal, giving the new series an ample lead-in.
