- Scottie Scheffler missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open, ending a streak of 78 consecutive PGA Tour starts in which he made the cut
- Scheffler said missing the cut is 'significantly more frustrating' than finishing second, calling his runner-up at the Travelers 'more painful' than the missed cut
- Scheffler is defending his Open title at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England, and would become the first back-to-back Open champion since Padraig Harrington in 2008-09
- Scheffler arrived two days early, playing 18 holes Sunday and nine holes each Monday and Tuesday to learn Royal Birkdale, where he had never competed
- Scheffler will play the first two rounds with Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton, teeing off Thursday at 4:58 a.m. ET
- Scheffler dismissed legacy talk with a striking remark: 'at the end of the day, I'm going to live my life, and it's going to end'
- Scheffler's 2025 season includes six PGA Tour wins but no victories since the American Express on Jan. 25, plus four runner-up finishes and top-25 results in all but one start
Why it matters: Scheffler enters the year's final major on a course he's never played, carrying the rare baggage of a missed cut and a winless streak since January despite six prior 2025 victories. A successful defense would make him the first back-to-back Open winner since Harrington in 2008-09 and reset a year that has produced more near-misses than he is used to.
