- BYD sold a record 305,743 battery electric vehicles in October, up 37% year over year, pushing monthly EV volume above 300,000 for the first time.
- BYD reported 490,168 total new energy vehicle sales in October, up 11% from a year earlier and its highest monthly total in 2026; battery EVs accounted for about 63% of sales, while plug-in hybrids fell 17% to 177,382 units.
- U.S. EV sales were just over 262,500 for the entire third quarter, according to Kelley Blue Book estimates, below BYD’s battery-EV volume in October alone.
- BYD sold 1,953,700 EVs through October, 6% more than in the same period last year; October was its sixth straight month of higher sales growth and third straight month of higher EV sales.
- BYD exported 170,194 vehicles in October and more than 1.5 million EVs and plug-in hybrids through October, nearly double the prior-year level; the company projects about 2 million overseas shipments by the end of 2026 and more than 2.5 million in 2027.
- BYD is launching several new and updated vehicles with Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging, aiming to attract buyers with longer range, faster charging and more tech-oriented models.
- China accounted for over half of electric cars sold worldwide, and BYD and other automakers were driving overseas growth in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America as legacy OEMs fell behind quickly.
Why it matters: BYD gains scale against legacy automakers overseas: its 305,743 October battery EVs exceeded the U.S. market’s entire third quarter, while October exports reached 170,194 vehicles. BYD’s projected 2 million overseas shipments by the end of 2026 extend that push into Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.
