- Great Tang sales exceeded 10,000 units in September (13,010), the third straight month above that threshold, bringing cumulative sales since its mid-June China launch to 40,222 vehicles.
- BYD had secured over 150,000 preorders for the Great Tang by launch after a Beijing Auto Show debut drew 30,000 orders in 24 hours and 100,000 within two weeks.
- Great Tang pricing starts at 239,900 yuan ($35,500) for the base Premium EV, with the Flagship EV trim starting at 269,900 yuan ($40,000) and offering a 950 km CLTC range on a larger 130.15 kWh Blade Battery.
- BYD says the SUV's 1,000V Flash Charging architecture can recharge the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
- Great Tang dimensions — 5,263 mm long with a 3,130 mm wheelbase — make it larger than the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9 and roughly the size of the Li Auto L9.
- BYD executive vice president Stella Li confirmed the Great Tang will go on sale in Europe and other overseas markets by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
Why it matters: The Great Tang's 40,000+ units in three months at $35,500–$40,000 moves BYD squarely into the premium full-size SUV tier alongside the Li Auto L9 rather than its usual budget-EV lane, and the confirmed 2026–2027 European launch gives the company a halo product to compete with Hyundai and Kia in their home market. The 950 km range and 5-minute fast-charge claims, if they hold in real-world testing, undercut two of the biggest remaining objections to large EVs.
