- BYD's flagship Great Tang SUV received over 150,000 orders at its official launch — the highest pre-launch demand for any single BYD model.
- The Great Tang had secured 100,000+ preorders within two weeks of its April 24 debut at the Beijing Auto Show.
- Stella Li, BYD's executive vice president, said the SUV will go on sale in Europe and Asia-Pacific by end of 2026 or early 2027.
- BYD priced the Great Tang starting at ~$35,500 (239,900 yuan), positioning it against Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo, and Audi in Europe.
- The Great Tang measures 5,263 mm long with a 2+2+3 seating layout, making it larger than the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9.
- The flagship SUV recharges from 10% to 70% in five minutes via BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 and 1000V Flash Charging architecture, delivering up to 950 km CLTC range.
Why it matters: BYD's $35,500 full-size EV — 950 km range, five-minute charging — heads to Europe by end of 2026 to compete with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo, and Audi. The 150,000 Chinese orders already booked give BYD proven demand at a fraction of typical luxury-SUV pricing.
