- Iran warned that a potential new war with the U.S. could last longer than the previous conflict and would not be subject to American control over timing or conclusion, according to army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia.
- Trump stated the U.S. still has 'one or two sites' to strike in Iran, claiming such actions could be completed 'in 10 minutes,' specifically naming the suspected underground nuclear facility Pickaxe Mountain.
- Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohebbi declared there are 'no geographical limitations' in a future conflict with the U.S., echoing a warning from Iran's new supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
- Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran remains open to diplomacy but is also prepared for defense, urging the U.S. to exercise rationality to avoid escalation.
- Iran's security chief Mohsen Rezaei revealed he received a letter from U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance seeking to revive talks, noting a 'positive change in tone' but stating no response has been sent.
- Anwar Gargash, UAE diplomatic adviser, said the region hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough but is 'braced for the worst' amid renewed war threats.
Why it matters: The U.S. and Iran are simultaneously signaling both military readiness and diplomatic openings, with Trump’s specific threat to strike Pickaxe Mountain raising stakes just as Iran acknowledges a shift in U.S. tone. This narrow window for talks could collapse if either side acts militarily, risking broader regional conflict and disruption to global energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
