Letterboxd Outage Locks Users Out Sunday

- Letterboxd experienced an outage starting around 6 a.m. PT Sunday, with over 1,000 users reporting issues on DownDetector as the problems continued at the time of posting
- Affected users found themselves automatically signed out, and sign-in attempts on both app and website failed, with the website displaying "An error occurred. Please try again later"
- Letterboxd posted an Instagram statement saying their team is "working to restore access as soon as possible" and thanking users for their patience
- As of June, Letterboxd has more than 30 million users worldwide, having added 10 million users in 2025 alone
- A July report from Puck stated Letterboxd is in early acquisition talks with Netflix, Sony Pictures, Paramount Skydance, private equity firm TPG, and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who are allegedly interested buyers
