- MG (SAIC) announced pre-sales for the MG 07 electric coupe will open July 29, 2026, starting under 150,000 yuan (~$22,000), with a range-topping variant under 180,000 yuan (~$26,500).
- The base MG 07 uses a 67 kWh semi-solid-state battery rated for up to 610 km (379 miles), while the top variant adds an 800V platform, 5C fast charging, and up to 840 km (522 miles) of range.
- MG calls the 07 its first vehicle using Momenta's R7 World Model and its first with LiDAR, supporting L2 to L2++ ADAS features including advanced urban assisted driving and automated remote parking.
- The MG 07 cabin includes zero-gravity seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, plus a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and what SAIC calls the industry's first 'Queen' multi-functional makeup station with a pull-out vanity and mirror above the glovebox.
- SAIC's semi-solid-state batteries — which reduce liquid electrolyte to just 5% — passed two needle-penetration tests with no smoke, fire, or explosion after two hours, an industry first SAIC says exceeded standards by 20%.
- MG plans to bring the semi-solid-state battery tech to Europe by end of 2026, starting with the MG4 EV Urban.
Why it matters: SAIC is putting semi-solid-state battery tech — historically a premium feature — into a ~$22,000 coupe with 379 miles of range and LiDAR-assisted driving, compressing features and pricing tiers that Western and Korean rivals still reserve for $40K+ vehicles. If the July 29 launch hits the stated pricing, Chinese automakers widen their cost advantage in next-gen battery chemistry, not just in conventional EVs.
