- Finecut booked eight new territory deals across the two Korean films—four for each—plus Kairos Distribution’s inflight rights for “Journey There,” extending its market reach ahead of AFM.
- “Nowhere to Lay My Eyes” sold to Carlotta Films for France, Mimosa Films for Japan, Kligger for Argentina, and The Stone and the Plot for Portugal, after earlier deals covering North America, Austria, China, Spain, Taiwan and the U.K.
- Hong Sangsoo earned best direction, best performance and the Ecumenical Jury Prize for the film at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, his 35th feature, with Kim Minhee, Kwon Haehyo and first-time collaborator Choi Myeonggil.
- “Journey There”, the first Korean production to star “Beef” actor Justin H. Min, was released in Korea on Oct. 28 and earned invitations to the Moscow International Film Festival, New York Asian Film Festival and the Paris and London Korean film festivals.
- Kim Jin-yu directed “Journey There,” her second feature after “Bori” won two prizes at the 24th Schlingel International Film Festival; Pado produced the drama, about a widow drawn into unexpected relationships in her new apartment.
- “Long Long Night” will screen for AFM buyers for the first time in an English-dubbed version and has invitations from Toronto, Busan and Sitges; Finecut’s wider slate also includes “Dora” and “Wi-Fi Love in the Palace.”
Why it matters: Finecut has secured eight new territory deals plus one inflight-rights sale for the two Korean films, broadening access for distributors across Europe, Asia and Latin America. The additional AFM slate means the company’s market presence extends beyond the two headline titles to “Long Long Night,” “Dora” and “Wi-Fi Love in the Palace.”
