- Rosamund Pike will star in and produce the body horror Feed, whose sales launch next week at the American Film Market.
- Leslye Headland (The Acolyte, Russian Doll) directs from a script by Daniella Isaacs (People Who Knew Me) inspired by the 2022 Finnish film Hatching.
- Feed is billed as a "twisted mother-daughter story about parental ambition, the illusion of protection, and the fine line between predator and prey," with Pike as Erin, a desperate mother who gives her tween gymnast daughter an obscure collagen supplement promising influencer fame before the girl goes viral and begins a monstrous transformation.
- Pike said the film plays "anarchically" with society's obsession with social media and self-improvement, the hunger for fame without notable admirable skill and "the monstrosity of modern motherhood," while framing the story around appetite — online communities, a landscape that monetises youth and beauty, and the teenager's own hunger for fame and self-empowerment.
- Headland called Isaacs's script "audacious, disturbing and deeply human" and said Pike is "among the boldest actors working today."
- Primitive Streak, Pike's production banner, produces alongside Magnolia Entertainment (Shelley Browning), Spooky Pictures (Steven Schneider), ZQ Entertainment (Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl) and Agile Films (Sam Ritzenberg); ZQ Entertainment financed the script's development.
Why it matters: Pike's move from star to producer through Primitive Streak places her alongside Magnolia, Spooky Pictures, ZQ and Agile Films as sales open next week at American Film Market. With ZQ Entertainment already having financed the script's development, buyers are being offered a package with cast, director, writer and production backing attached rather than an unfunded screenplay.
