Volkswagen recalls 94,031 EVs over battery fire risk

- Volkswagen announced a worldwide recall of 94,031 electric vehicles, covering 74,579 ID models and 19,452 Cupra Borns.
- KBA reported that 22,182 Volkswagen‑brand and 5,976 Cupra‑brand vehicles are located in Germany.
- ID.4, along with ID.3, ID.5, ID. Buzz Cargo and ID. Buzz, built between 24 June 2023 and 23 August 2024, is part of the recall.
- Cupra Born vehicles built from 27 February 2022 to 21 April 2024 are also covered by the recall.
- Volkswagen will inspect the battery modules, apply a software update and replace any high‑voltage modules as needed, under KBA reference 16271R.
- US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration previously oversaw a U.S. recall of 43,881 ID.4s in January 2026 for overheating battery risk, with similar software updates and replacements planned.
