- Darryl M. Bell and Kadeem Hardison are launching "A Different World View with Darryl & Kadeem," a weekly rewatch podcast premiering Thursday, Oct. 15, with new episodes dropping every Thursday
- iHeartMedia and Charlamonge Tha God's Black Effect Podcast Network are producing and distributing the podcast, which capitalizes on renewed interest from the "A Different World" revival now airing on Netflix
- Debbie Allen — executive producer and director of the Netflix revival, and star of "A Different World" — will be the podcast's first guest; Bell and Hardison will kick off the rewatch with the original series' Season 2, Episode 2, which was Allen's first episode with the show
- Bell and Hardison have a nearly 40-year friendship dating to Spike Lee's "School Daze"; they also recently toured HBCUs as part of an "A Different World" reunion tour, and Bell said they have "only wanted to do this for over 25 years"
- The podcast will span entertainment, pop culture, sports and behind-the-scenes stories, welcoming familiar faces from the original series along with cast members from the new Netflix sequel series
Why it matters: The launch turns the Netflix revival into a cross-platform fan engine: the two stars who anchor the legacy get a long-form venue to unpack four decades of Black culture history while the podcast networks land a nostalgia-driven property tied to HBCU alumni audiences. For longtime viewers, the rewatch format unlocks stories a streaming revival can't fit into 30-minute episodes.
