- Sony's upgraded PSSR is rolling out to PS5 Pro titles including Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Silent Hill 2, with Digital Foundry confirming it addresses shimmering, flickering, and other visual artifacts and delivers crisper, more consistent graphics.
- The system update carrying the new PSSR rolls out in phases starting March 17th at 1AM ET.
- Project Amethyst — the combined Sony-AMD research effort — produced its first PSSR upgrade, and Sony says the improvements will also carry over to AMD's next FSR update on PCs.
- Resident Evil Requiem debuted the upgraded PSSR in February before the wider rollout to other PS5 Pro titles.
- Additional games gaining PSSR support include Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Alan Wake 2, Control, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Nioh 3, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dragon's Dogma 2.
- Assassin's Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 will receive PSSR patches in the "coming weeks," while Crimson Desert adopts the tech at its March 19th launch.
- PS5 Pro owners can manually toggle the updated PSSR on or off for existing supported games not on Sony's official list, though Sony notes that "results may vary by title."
Why it matters: For PS5 Pro owners, a free system-level image-quality upgrade arrives just as Digital Foundry calls it the upgrade the console was "looking for" at launch — and with Sony confirming the gains will flow into AMD's next FSR update, PC players on RDNA 4 GPUs stand to benefit from the same machine-learning improvements.
