- Imogen Poots and John Reynolds are cast in the lead roles of Amazon Prime Video's 'Sex Criminals' — Poots as Suze and Reynolds as Jon, a couple who discover they share the ability to freeze time when they have sex and then rob banks together.
- Amazon Prime Video ordered eight episodes of 'Sex Criminals' in January, with the series adapted from the comic book of the same name by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky, who are set to executive produce.
- Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, and Tze Chun are co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers, with Nanjiani also set to appear onscreen in an undisclosed role; Gordon and Nanjiani executive produce via Winter Coat Films alongside Dani Melia.
- LuckyChap (Dani Gorin executive producing, Louie Hayes producing) is involved under its first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios, which is behind the series.
- Poots brings credits including 'Outer Range,' 'I Know This Much Is True,' '28 Weeks Later,' and 'The Chronology of Water,' and is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, B-Side, and Sloane Offer.
- Reynolds arrives with a resume spanning 'Search Party,' 'Four Weddings and a Funeral,' 'Yellowjackets,' 'Master of None,' and a turn as Officer Callahan on Netflix's 'Stranger Things'; he is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Felker McGinnis & Ryan.
Why it matters: Amazon MGM Studios is moving forward on a high-concept adaptation of a well-known Image Comics title with proven showrunners in Nanjiani, Gordon, and Chun, plus LuckyChap's production backing — and the Poots/Reynolds pairing gives the streamer two actors with both prestige credits and streaming-native audiences. With an eight-episode order locked in since January, the casting signals active pre-production is underway.
