- San Sebastián Film Festival added six films to its 2026 Official Selection, bringing the Golden Shell contender count to 16 alongside 10 previously announced titles for the 74th edition running Sept. 18–26.
- Jesse Eisenberg's "The Debut" stars Julianne Moore as a shy housewife turned obsessive method actor alongside Paul Giamatti; A24 handles the U.S. release after a Toronto premiere.
- Fred Cavayé's "Les Misérables" adaptation features Vincent Lindon, Tahar Rahim, and Noémie Merlant, with Studiocanal backing the film and handling international sales.
- Amanda Kernell's "Brace Your Heart" follows a young woman protecting her father's reindeer herd, produced by Nordisk Film Production and sold internationally by TrustNordisk ahead of its Toronto world premiere.
- Gabriel Martins' "On Behalf of My Son" is produced by Filmes de Plástico in partnership with Netflix and follows a woman seeking out families affected by her son's fatal accident.
- Two feature debuts round out the additions: Ah Biao's "Border", about a broke miner drawn to crime in a forgotten border town, and Tony Vahl's "Krux", a WWII-era drama starring Jella Haase with Global Constellation handling sales.
Why it matters: The expanded Golden Shell field signals a major platform moment for debuts (Ah Biao, Tony Vahl) and established voices (Eisenberg, Cavayé, Kernell, Martins), with the Netflix co-production on Martins' film marking the streamer's continued push into festival-circuit arthouse fare alongside its mainstream slate.
