San Sebastián Adds Larraín, Leigh, Naishtat Films

- Pablo Larraín brings "My Sad Dead" ("Mis muertos tristes"), a feature adaptation of his Netflix four-part horror miniseries produced by Fabula, adapting Argentine writer Mariana Enriquez and starring Mercedes Morán, Dolores Fonzi and Alejandra Flechner.
- Mike Leigh's "Tender Loving Care" — starring Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson, Kate O'Flynn and Alice Bailey Johnson — will screen in main competition, described by the festival as Leigh's "insightful exploration of the modern world."
- Benjamín Naishtat's "Glaxo," from the director of "Rojo" (a previous San Sebastián hit), is set in a small provincial town between the late 1950s and 1980s and described as being "about desire and revenge, set at a time when a whole country lost its innocence."
- Also joining main competition: Nicole Garcia's "Milo" (starring Marion Cotillard), Maha Harada's "In My Father's Room," Hans Petter Moland's "Growth of the Soil" and Yeşim Ustaoğlu's "What Remains."
- The seven newly announced titles join three previously revealed Spanish features — Mikel Gurrea's "Sants" with Vicky Luengo, comedian Berto Romero's time-loop comedy "Five Minutes More" and Roberto Bueso's "El mal padre."
- The 74th edition runs Sept. 18–26 in San Sebastián, in Spain's Basque Country, with the festival's hallmark mix of international auteurs drawn from Latin America, France and the Nordics; the New Directors strand will be announced Friday.
Why it matters: San Sebastián has now locked seven international auteur titles alongside its three Spanish features, reinforcing its role as a launchpad for prestige cinema from Latin America, France and the Nordics — and Larraín's pivot from a Netflix horror miniseries to a Fabula-produced feature marks a notable prestige-to-platform pipeline reversal.
