i-charging 1.5 MW truck charger clears US safety hurdle

- i-charging received Intertek's ETL certification for its i-light heavy-duty charger, confirming compliance with UL 2202 and UL 2231 in the US and CSA C22.2 No. 346 in Canada.
- The i-light delivers up to 1.5 MW at 1,500 amps continuously via its MCS output and up to 800 kW via CCS, using a 600-amp continuous-cooled cable (optional 700-amp, 800-amp peak).
- Dual CCS/MCS connectors let fleets charge existing CCS-equipped trucks today and accommodate MCS-equipped models as the standard matures, per CEO Jeff Cohen.
- MCS is being developed specifically for large commercial EVs with much larger batteries than passenger cars, allowing trucks to charge during required driver breaks rather than sitting for hours.

Why it matters: Fleet operators now have an independently certified 1.5 MW option that works with today's CCS trucks and tomorrow's MCS trucks, addressing the chicken-and-egg infrastructure gap that has held back medium- and heavy-duty EV deployment. The milestone is procedural, not commercial — i-charging still needs permits, site agreements, and signed customers before any truck plugs in.
