i-charging's 1.5 MW truck charger clears US safety hurdle

- i-charging received ETL certification from Intertek for its i-light 1.5 MW heavy-duty electric truck charger, confirming compliance with electrical safety standards for DC fast charging equipment in the US and Canada.
- The certification covers UL 2202 and UL 2231 in the US and CSA C22.2 No. 346 in Canada, giving fleet operators and site developers the independent safety validation they need before installation.
- The i-light supports both CCS (up to 800 kW via a 600-amp continuous-cooled cable or optional 700-amp/800-amp-peak cable) and MCS (1.5 MW at 1,500 amps continuously) outputs, making it compatible with electric trucks already on North American roads.
- MCS is being developed specifically for large commercial EVs with much larger batteries than passenger cars, designed so electric trucks can charge quickly during required driver breaks rather than sitting at a charger for hours.
- i-charging, founded in 2019 and headquartered in Porto, Portugal, and Atlanta, has not yet disclosed its first US or Canadian customers or deployment dates.
- CEO Jeff Cohen of i-charging USA called the ETL certification "a decisive step" and said fleet operators demand infrastructure matching medium- and heavy-duty duty cycles while being ready for MCS as the standard matures.
