- Mike Stenson died April 26 at age 65 after serving as president of Jerry Bruckheimer Films since 1998, where he supervised all aspects of film development and production.
- Stenson developed and produced a roster of major releases including "Top Gun: Maverick," five "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, "National Treasure," "Black Hawk Down," "Pearl Harbor," "Remember the Titans," "Coyote Ugly," and three "Bad Boys" movies.
- Jerry Bruckheimer called Stenson "one of the most brilliant individuals I've ever known or worked with," citing his story sense, end-to-end knowledge of production, and legendary relationships with talent on both sides of the camera.
- Stenson was born and raised in Boston, graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's in economics and an MBA, and began his career as a production assistant before rising through the ranks at Disney's Hollywood Pictures and Touchstone Pictures.
- A funeral mass is scheduled for May 20 at 2:00 pm at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach; Stenson is survived by brothers John, Tom, and Robert and their families.
Why it matters: Stenson spent more than 25 years as the operational backbone of one of Hollywood's most prolific production banners, helping deliver franchises that collectively grossed billions worldwide. His death creates a leadership vacuum at Jerry Bruckheimer Films precisely as the company is still shepherding major franchise properties like the next "Top Gun" and potential "Pirates" continuations.
