- Six Flags Magic Mountain installed a 12.37 MW solar carport in Valencia, California, described as the state's largest such installation and one of the biggest single-site commercial solar carport projects in the US.
- Solar Optimum partnered with the park on the build, deploying 22,908 RECOM bifacial panels across 36 carport structures that span roughly 637,000 square feet and shade 4,315 parking spaces (3,544 guest, 771 employee).
- Six Flags expects the array to generate around 20.8 million kWh annually, enough to offset the combined yearly power use of the amusement park and neighboring Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles.
- The installation includes 109 EV charging connectors across the guest and employee lots plus a 2 MW / 8 MWh battery system for storing surplus power for later discharge.
- Six Flags plans to eventually offset 100% of the parks' annual electricity consumption, with Southern California Edison's grid still backing the sites for shortfalls and absorbing exported surplus.
- Construction officially broke ground on November 1, 2023, with Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables, and follows earlier solar projects at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Northern California and Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.
Why it matters: Six Flags Magic Mountain now generates the bulk of its own electricity on land it was already using for parking, turning roughly 4,315 stalls into shade, EV charging, and a 20.8 million-kWh-per-year power source — a concrete model for theme-park operators trying to cut grid dependence without expanding their footprint.
