- Rapid Support Forces drone strike killed 41 people at a camp for displaced people in Blue Nile state's Abu Shandi area near the Ethiopian border on Friday
- Emergency Lawyers rights group reported the death toll; the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said it was 'appalled by horrifying reports' and that most victims were women and children
- OCHA stated the struck area had been 'under sustained attack in recent weeks,' displacing thousands more civilians from their homes
- Sudan's army and RSF power struggle since 2023 has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced more than 14 million, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises
- The Sudanese army controls much of central and eastern Sudan, while the RSF is headquartered in Darfur and also controls areas in the south
- Both warring sides have been accused of using drone attacks throughout the conflict
Why it matters: A camp of people already displaced by Sudan's civil war was hit, killing mostly women and children in a region under weeks of sustained bombardment. With both sides deploying drones and over 14 million already uprooted, civilians have no escape from escalating violence.
