- An anonymous 2024 contestant told the BBC her on-screen partner admitted past aggressive behaviour to producers, threw a mic-pack at a wall, and once threw an object at crew; she sent him a photo of a bruise during filming to which he replied "Shit! I'm so sorry."
- Adrian Araouzou, a 2025 series groom, received a 2017 conviction for affray and had previously been acquitted of domestic violence; the BBC reports his on-screen bride was not informed of the affray conviction, and Channel 9 and Endemol Shine Australia said the conviction drew a $400 fine.
- Other male cast members identified by the BBC as having criminal histories include Timothy Smith (2024), who says he spent a year in a US prison for drug trafficking and brands himself "cartel pilot to corporate leader," and Chris Nield (latest series), who was previously found guilty of common assault.
- Channel 9 and Endemol Shine Australia told the BBC they have "strong protocols" — police checks, independent clinical psychological assessment, medical screening, and statutory-declaration disclosure — but declined to answer directly whether participants' criminal histories are shared with their matched partners.
