- Saw: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer horror game co-developed by Broken Mirror Games, Anshar Studios and Bloober Team, set roughly a century before the Saw films in the bleak aftermath of World War I.
- Anshar Studios creative director Damian Kocurek told Deadline that Lionsgate and James Wan both reviewed the game to ensure it didn't break the franchise's IP, a partnership that traces back to Bloober Team's 2019 Blair Witch game for Lionsgate.
- Three players take the role of "the Accused" surviving traps and painful sacrifices, while a fourth player controls "the Judge" — a potential early predecessor to Jigsaw's philosophy, with two Judge variants planned, one of them called "the Doctor," a WWI veteran who lost his jaw.
- Kocurek stressed that the Judges are not technically killers but "rehabilitators," echoing Jigsaw's twisted mantra of forcing the Accused to make sacrifices in order to earn the will to survive — which the interviewer contested after gouging out an in-game eye.
- The game is in active playtest sign-ups but has no scheduled release date as of writing.
Why it matters: For Lionsgate, Saw: Genesis extends the franchise into interactive multiplayer without contradicting its 10 existing films. The 1920s setting gives the developers room to build proto-Jigsaw mythology from scratch — but also forces them to preserve the franchise's twisted moral logic in a format where a fourth player actively orchestrates the traps.
