- BYD announced the Song Ultra EV would undertake a 2,700‑mile (4,395 km) test drive across the Lianyungang‑Khorgos Expressway on May 16, marking the first pure EV to complete the route.
- BYD has installed 5,979 Flash‑Charging stations in 312 Chinese cities as of May 15 and plans to roll out the network to Europe and other overseas markets later this year.
- Song Ultra EV launched on March 26 at 151,900 yuan ($22,000), far below the expected 220,000 yuan, and secured 61,240 orders in its first month.
- Blade Battery 2.0 powers the Song Ultra EV with 68.4 kWh or 82.7 kWh packs, delivering CLTC ranges of 375 mi (605 km) and 441 mi (710 km) respectively.
- Flash Charging can raise the Song Ultra EV from 10 % to 70 % in five minutes, to 97 % in nine minutes, and to 97 % at –30 °C in twelve minutes, with free charging periods for pre‑order customers.
Why it matters: Chinese consumers gain ultra‑fast charging and long range at low prices, while BYD secures a dominant market share; Europe’s lagging electrification widens the gap in EV adoption, boosting China’s export prospects.
