- Met Office put most of Scotland under a yellow warning from midday Saturday and the mainland and Western Isles under an amber warning from 21:00 Saturday until 21:00 Sunday, warning of flying debris, power cuts, damage to trees and buildings and bridge closures; the 24-hour amber spell is unusual because of its length and wide geographical area.
- Storm Boelo is forecast to bring widespread westerly gusts of 60-70mph, with 80mph in exposed coastal areas, and the strongest winds will initially affect western Scotland and the far north of Northern Ireland on Saturday evening before spreading eastwards overnight and through Sunday with heavy rain and frequent showers; the Scottish government's resilience room met on Friday.
- ScotRail confirmed closures from 21:00 Saturday on Glasgow Central–Ayr (Kilwinning–Ayr), from around 22:00 on Glasgow Queen Street–Oban/Mallaig (Fort William–Mallaig and Crianlarich–Oban), and from the start of Sunday's service on Inverness–Kyle of Lochalsh (Kyle–Achnashellach) and Inverness–Wick/Thurso (Helmsdale–Wick/Thurso); Network Rail will run reduced speeds across large parts of Scotland.
- Police Scotland warned that stopping distances can be at least double on wet roads and that spray can reduce visibility, told HGV and bus drivers they may be asked to park, and urged drivers to consider whether journeys over the weekend were "really necessary".
- RNLI water safety lead Michael Avril urged extreme caution near the shoreline, warning that conditions "could knock you off your feet or wash you into the sea" along exposed cliffs, seafronts and piers.
- CalMac cancelled a number of sailings on Friday and amended the Saturday timetable for the MV Isle of Mull, which runs between the mainland, South Uist and Barra.
- Western Isles Council advised church services to plan for strong winds throughout Sunday, while a Halloween family fun day at Dean Park Castle and Country Park in Kilmarnock was postponed and the Penicuik Athletic–Clyde Scottish Cup tie was delayed by heavy rain, with Paisley's Halloween festival still due to take place.
Why it matters: For weekend travellers, the disruption is concrete and timetabled: ScotRail's four named line closures start from 21:00 Saturday, Network Rail will run reduced speeds across large parts of Scotland, and Police Scotland says stopping distances can at least double on wet roads, with passengers told to expect significant disruption and longer journeys.
