EVgo Adds 500+ Fast Chargers to Brixmor Shopping Centers

- EVgo is deploying 500+ DC fast-charging stalls at Brixmor Property Group shopping centers, with at least 90 of Brixmor's 346 properties — more than a quarter of its portfolio — set to host EVgo chargers once complete.
- Brixmor operates 346 open-air neighborhood shopping centers across 29 states, anchored by tenants including Kroger, Publix, TJ Maxx, and Ross Stores, with new charger sites planned in Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
- EVgo will install up to 12 DC fast chargers per new Brixmor site, though the company has not yet disclosed charging speeds or the full list of participating centers.
- Deployment is scheduled to begin later this year, with the first new site planned for Barn Plaza in Doylestown, roughly 30 miles north of Philadelphia, anchored by Whole Foods Market along with Barnes & Noble, Pottery Barn, and Shake Shack.
- Scott Levitan, EVgo's executive vice president of growth, said shopping centers are an ideal charging location because drivers can spend the 20–30 minute charge window shopping or eating instead of waiting in the car.
- EVgo first installed chargers at a Brixmor shopping center in Pleasanton, California, in 2016, making the new rollout a major scale-up of a nine-year-old partnership.
Why it matters: By turning grocery and errand runs into charging windows, EVgo is converting 90-plus retail properties into infrastructure that could meaningfully shorten the time gap between plugging in and going about a normal day — a direct bet that convenience, not raw charger counts, drives EV adoption.
