Claude Leads Enterprise Agent Orchestration at 40%, Survey Finds

- Anthropic's Claude leads as the primary agent orchestration platform for 40% of the 101 surveyed enterprises, more than double Microsoft AI Foundry/Copilot Studio (18%) and OpenAI's Agents SDK/Responses API (13%); Google's Enterprise Agent Platform sits at 8% plus 2% on Amazon Bedrock Agents
- Model gravity — native alignment with a state-of-the-art base model — is the top driver of platform selection at 21%, followed by flexibility across models and tools (17%) and ease of development (17%); performance/latency ranks last at 4%
- The chatbot trap is stark: 71% of enterprises say a quarter or fewer of their deployed 'agents' are true multi-step orchestrated workflows, only 10% have crossed the halfway mark, and the gap is wider at smaller firms (77%) than larger ones (62%)
- Success metrics center on reliable execution: task completion reliability (32%) and multi-step workflow management (28%) together account for 59% of responses, while end-user experience draws just 9%
- Hybrid control planes will dominate by end of 2026 — 51% expect provider-native plus external orchestration, only 6% expect a fully provider-managed service — driven by vendor lock-in fears cited by 35% as their top risk
- Fiscal control lags: 27% of enterprises have no real-time way to stop a runaway agent before the bill arrives, even as agent workflow tooling leads planned spend at 34%
- Satisfaction is provisional: platforms rate 3.94 out of 5 overall, but 96% of respondents plan to change their orchestration approach within the year
Why it matters: Enterprises are concentrating orchestration bets on Anthropic's Claude (40% primary share, double the next rival) yet most of what they call 'agents' are still single-prompt chatbot wrappers — meaning the $34%-share-of-spend flowing into agent workflow tooling is being built to run a portfolio that largely doesn't exist yet, while 27% admit they can't stop a runaway agent in real time.
