- Flare's FXRP was approved as collateral in Sentora's RLUSD Main vault on Morpho, letting users convert XRP to FXRP, bridge to Ethereum, deposit it as collateral, and borrow RLUSD while retaining XRP price exposure.
- The integration marks the first time an XRP-based asset has been approved as collateral in an institutionally curated Ethereum lending vault, per the Monday announcement.
- Morpho Blue runs isolated lending markets designed to contain risk if a specific asset falters, and Sentora said it reviewed FXRP's market behavior, oracle design, liquidity, and liquidation mechanics before approving it.
- Flare CEO Hugo Philion framed the gap — XRP being one of crypto's largest assets yet least used in DeFi — as an infrastructure problem, calling institutional underwriting on Ethereum mainnet "a stronger form of recognition than another bridge listing."
- The design mirrors Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), which lets Bitcoin holders access Ethereum-based decentralized finance without selling their BTC.
- The launch builds on Ripple's RLUSD rollout: testing began on Ethereum and the XRP Ledger in August 2024, NYDFS approval followed in December 2024, and Mastercard said last month it will support settlement of RLUSD alongside USDC and SoFiUSD.
Why it matters: XRP holders gain dollar-pegged liquidity through a Morpho Blue market with isolated risk containment, without triggering a taxable sale or losing price exposure. Sentora's institutional risk review gives XRP-based collateral a credibility foothold in Ethereum DeFi that the Flare team argues goes beyond a simple bridge listing — positioning RLUSD as the borrowable asset of choice against it.
