- Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit this week, giving developers MCP server access, Claude skills for wallet operations, balance checks, and x402 payment support using XRP and RLUSD.
- The x402 market has processed over 120 million cumulative transactions and $41 million in USDC volume across 14 chains with an average payment size of about 5 cents, per a public Web3 Trackers dashboard.
- Base leads x402 with roughly 70 million transactions and $21.5 million in volume, followed by Solana with 45 million transactions and $16.4 million — both rails settle in USDC, not XRP.
- A Chainalysis report from early June showed x402 activity on Base surged from near zero in mid-2025 to over 100 million cumulative transactions through Q1 2026, with a late-2025 spike partly driven by the speculative PING meme coin mint loop.
- The x402 protocol, created by Coinbase and now stewarded by the Linux Foundation's x402 Foundation, uses HTTP 402 "Payment Required" to embed on-chain payments in normal web requests — but an academic paper flagged web-and-chain synchronization failure points around authorization and payment matching.
- Ripple cited three-to-five-second settlement, predictable fees, a native DEX, and no smart contract execution risk as XRPL advantages, yet disclosed no named customers, transaction volumes, or production deployments for agent payments at scale.
Why it matters: Ripple is entering a market where Base and Solana have already absorbed roughly 115 million combined x402 transactions in USDC, meaning XRP and RLUSD must displace entrenched stablecoin rails rather than generate new payment flow. Without disclosed customers or production volume, the pitch rests on XRPL's technical profile — settlement speed and native DEX — rather than demonstrated agent-payment adoption.
