- Tesla activated 2.4 kW vehicle-to-load for Model Y Premium in the US and Puerto Rico via an $80 adapter that clips onto the Gen 3 Mobile Connector to deliver 120V/20A household outlets.
- The $80 V2L adapter works on Model Y Premium, Model Y Performance, and Cybertruck, but excludes the Model Y Standard and the entire Model 3 lineup.
- Tesla launched the identical $80, 2.4 kW adapter for Cybertruck owners in April 2025, and Electrek reported in October 2024 that the new Model Y Performance shipped with bidirectional hardware held back by trim strategy.
- Tesla's 2.4 kW ceiling trails competitors: Hyundai's Ioniq 5 has offered 3.6 kW V2L since 2021, Ford's F-150 Lightning reaches 9.6 kW on extended-range trucks, and Chevy's Silverado EV offers up to 10.2 kW.
- Tesla's Powershare home-backup capability remains Cybertruck-exclusive — the company's own page states Powershare is "not available for Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y" — while Cybertruck pushes 11.5 kW into a house for three days or more.

Why it matters: For Model Y Premium owners, an $80 adapter turns the car into a 2.4 kW generator capable of running a fridge or jobsite saw. But real home backup remains Cybertruck-only, and Tesla's 2.4 kW ceiling trails Hyundai's 3.6 kW since 2021, Ford's 9.6 kW, and Chevy's 10.2 kW.
