- Des Carey appointed Executive Director, Strategic Growth & Innovation at Dublin-based Elephant Goldfish, where he will work across the studio and the wider Molinare Creative Group on strategic growth, new partnerships and emerging production technologies.
- Carey began his career at Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco, later helped develop early digital intermediate workflows at Company 3, and was a founding partner of Los Angeles post-production facility Light Iron.
- Most recently, Carey served as Global Head of Cinematic Innovation at Samsung, and over 25 years has collaborated with Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, David Fincher, Robert Zemeckis and Gore Verbinski.
- Carey said he joined Elephant Goldfish because it offered a chance to "build something at a meaningful stage of its development," citing the studio's experienced creative team and the Molinare Creative Group's heritage.
- Deborah Doherty, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Elephant Goldfish, called Carey a rare combination of "strategic thinking, technical knowledge and genuine warmth" suited to the studio's next growth phase.
- Elephant Goldfish's credits include Doctor Who, Netflix's Wednesday, Lee Cronin's The Mummy and Richard Linklater's Blue Moon.
Why it matters: Elephant Goldfish gains a 25-year VFX veteran whose resume — from Lucasfilm/ILM and founding Light Iron through Samsung's cinematic innovation team — gives the Dublin post house direct access to a Hollywood filmmaker network (Spielberg, Fincher, Zemeckis) it didn't previously have in-house. The hire is explicitly framed by both sides as the next stage of company building rather than a routine addition, positioning Molinare Creative Group to translate Carey's relationships into new film, TV and emerging-tech partnerships.
