- Robin Schwartz joined Story Syndicate as Head of Scripted, reporting to founders Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan, and will oversee a team that includes scripted development and production executive Carolyn Daucher from Los Angeles.
- Schwartz succeeds Nellie Reed, who recently departed to launch Short Stack Productions under an overall deal at A24.
- Story Syndicate renewed its first-look TV deal with Tomorrow Studios — an ITV Studios partnership led by founder and CEO Marty Adelstein and president Becky Clements — under which it landed a straight-to-series Netflix order for Mark Bomback's "So Far Gone" in December after a bidding war.
- The company also has development deals for a Claus von Bülow limited series at Apple TV with "Adolescence" co-creator Jack Thorne writing, and a police procedural inspired by Geraldine Hart at HBO Max from writers Eileen Myers and Jerome Hairston.
- Schwartz previously served as President of Television at FilmNation and ran the TV divisions of Regency and Big Beach; her former Working Bird banner brings "Funny You Should Ask" starring Regé-Jean Page to Apple TV, with limited series based on Joan Didion's "The White Album" and "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" also in development.
Why it matters: Story Syndicate, primarily known as a nonfiction producer behind Netflix's Maternal Instinct and Prime Video's One Night In Idaho, has been pushing into scripted — a move the company explicitly says it hopes to continue under Schwartz. Her hire brings executive experience from FilmNation, Regency, and Big Beach plus writer relationships, giving the doc shop a seasoned scripted leader as it builds out its drama slate through the renewed Tomorrow Studios pipeline.
