- Deion Sanders plans to evaluate all three quarterbacks — Isaac Wilson, Kaneal Sweetwyne, and Julian "JuJu" Lewis — during the bye week before Colorado (2-3, 0-2 Big 12) faces No. 13 Utah on Oct. 17.
- Isaac Wilson made his first start and opened with a nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive, but threw three interceptions the rest of the way, the final one a pick-six caught by Texas Tech linebacker John Curry deep in Colorado's end zone; Wilson finished 26-for-44 for 290 yards.
- Julian "JuJu" Lewis opened the season as the starter and posted five touchdowns and zero interceptions in wins over Georgia Tech and Weber State, but threw two picks against Northwestern before being benched at halftime against Baylor on Sept. 26.
- Kaneal Sweetwyne has appeared in two games this season, going 8-for-12 for 42 passing yards, making him the least-tested of the three options Sanders said he'll evaluate.
- After Wilson's touchdown drive, Colorado's next 12 possessions ended with two missed field goals, four interceptions, an unsuccessful fake punt, three punts and two turnovers on downs.
- Colorado, the most penalized team in the Big 12, was flagged eight times for 84 yards and outgained Texas Tech 375-315 yet scored just seven points.
- Sanders told reporters, "Let's stop the shenanigans, man... We got one darn problem... We've got to play better at one specific position. That's it."
Why it matters: The bye-week quarterback competition arrives with Colorado at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play, meaning a third conference loss would effectively end any path to a bowl-eligible season. Sanders has now publicly narrowed the problem to one position after a game in which the offense outgained Texas Tech 375-315 but generated just seven points, putting pressure on whether the staff elevates the lightly-used Sweetwyne or returns to Lewis, who started hot but has not played since the Baylor benching.
