- Banger Films will launch "Gone to Hell," an eight-episode adult animated series, on the BangerTV YouTube channel on October 30, with support from the Independent Production Fund, Canada Media Fund, and Ontario Creates.
- "Gone to Hell" is set in 1994 and follows Demon Destroyer, a world-famous rock band crushed by their own stage mascot during a live show and sent to Hell — only to discover they aren't actually dead.
- Co-creators Brian Peco and Craig Mailman wrote the series around a "Coma Clause" underworld rule that keeps the Gates of Hell open to the comatose band, giving them a deadline tied to whether their record label pulls the plug.
- Paul Spence voices frontman Rick Fashun, with Chris Locke as Dev Devilio (the egomaniacal ruler of Hell), Derrick Beckles as drummer Donnie, Jackie Pirico as bassist Jojo, and Kevin Morgan as Derek/Deva.
- Peco built the underworld world using miniature sets he made by hand, explicitly positioning the production as "the opposite of AI slop," with music composed by Robin Hatch.
- The series marks Banger Films' first animated project — the company is best known for Peabody- and Emmy-winning "Hip-Hop Evolution," "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage," and "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey."
Why it matters: Banger Films — a Canadian documentary shop best known for music docs like "Hip-Hop Evolution" — is branching into adult animation, and creator Peco is making the hand-built aesthetic a deliberate selling point against AI-generated content. The show's eight-episode YouTube debut gives the production fund-backed series a direct-to-audience launch without traditional distribution.
