- Venus Twins — identical siblings Jake and Matt Derting — appeared in Olivia Rodrigo’s music video for the 'Expectations' remix featuring Chappell Roan, playing members of a rival family in a game-show segment.
- Jake and Matt Derting were cast about a month before filming after a casting agent reached out via Instagram, seeking 'interesting-looking people and punks' without initially revealing the artist’s identity.
- The Derting brothers spent an hour in makeup at a Queens warehouse studio, where their hair was styled into liberty spikes and they were instructed to act 'crazy' and 'mean' during the two-hour shoot.
- David Byrne, who also appears in the video as a game-show host, introduced himself casually on set and spoke briefly with the twins, who recognized him immediately.
- Venus Twins are set to perform a Halloween show as Modern Baseball at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel on October 31 and are finishing a new, more pop and electronic-influenced album.
Why it matters: For underground artists like Venus Twins, a visible role in a major pop star’s video amplifies their reach far beyond typical indie circuits, turning a niche punk identity into a cultural talking point overnight — and potentially reshaping audience perception of New York’s DIY scene.
