- Audi is recalling 9,048 Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron vehicles from model years 2024-2025, disclosed in an October 23 letter to the NHTSA, extending Volkswagen's earlier electric-vehicle recall.
- Audi is advising owners to limit charging to 80% of battery capacity until a remedy is available, with authorized dealers running diagnostic checks on the battery and imposing a temporary state-of-charge limit where needed.
- Volkswagen recalled 22,524 ID.4 electric SUVs from model years 2023-2026 earlier this month after its NHTSA safety recall report said certain charging profiles combined with a state of charge above 80% may trigger thermal propagation, or battery fire.
- Volkswagen said it intended to apply a temporary vehicle setting limiting charging to 80% unless owners opted out by October 21, while the root cause of the battery issue remains unknown.
- Audi's Product Safety Committee was informed of battery thermal events in other VW Group EVs using the same batteries; Audi's internal investigation found matching battery and production characteristics, and the majority of affected vehicles were produced for the North American market.
- Audi is not aware of any claims, crashes, fires, injuries or deaths associated with the Q4 E-Tron battery issue; interim owner letters are scheduled for December 18, 2026, under recall number 93SK and NHTSA campaign number 26V698.
- Volkswagen Group issued three separate recalls with Germany's KBA last week covering 72,668 EVs worldwide, including 9,881 in Germany — certain ID. Buzz, ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7 models produced between 2022 and 2025 and Cupra Born models from 2022 to 2024.
Why it matters: Audi's 9,048 Q4 E-Tron owners are told to cap charging at 80% while the root cause stays undetermined, with dealer diagnostics and a temporary limit offered in the meantime. Audi reports no crashes, fires, injuries or deaths tied to the battery issue, and the wider VW Group battery recall reaches 72,668 EVs worldwide.
