- Modest Mouse announced guitarist Simon O'Connor would not join their upcoming tour after a Reddit user accused him of sending inappropriate DMs to her when she was 16, tapping Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav as his replacement.
- Simon O'Connor responded on Reddit, claiming he believed he was messaging a person who had created multiple fake accounts over time to "mess with" him, and said he unsent the messages after realizing his mistake.
- The accuser, claiming to be 17 and "following Simon for a few years," said O'Connor sent her an erotic image and continued messaging her despite her age being listed in her bio, and alleged indie music insiders she previously contacted "didn't care."
- Seth Jabour will join Modest Mouse on the tour for their eighth studio album An Eraser and a Maze, which kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 4 in Ojai, California.
- An Eraser and a Maze was released on June 5; O'Connor had joined Modest Mouse in 2021 and previously toured with MGMT.
Why it matters: Losing a guitarist days before a tour kickoff is logistically disruptive — Modest Mouse's Aug. 4 launch now depends on Seth Jabour learning the material on short notice. The accuser's claim that indie music insiders ignored her warnings before she went public on Reddit raises fresh questions about how the scene handles such allegations.
