- Volkswagen unveiled the Mission Efficiency concept on the MEB+ platform using ID. Polo components, achieving a record 0.158 drag coefficient and driving 1,278 km (794 miles) from Wolfsburg to Vienna on a single charge with 164 km remaining, verified by Record Institute Germany (RID).
- Mission Efficiency posted real-world efficiency of 6.89 kWh/100 km — roughly 110 Wh per mile, 9 miles per kWh, and over 300 MPGe — using a 54.9 kWh net battery and a single 99 kW (135 hp) front motor.
- Volkswagen engineered the concept to draw 30% less energy than a standard ID. Polo above 80 km/h, using about the same power at 140 km/h that the regular Polo needs at 100 km/h.
- The concept includes patented rim deflectors, flow-optimized hubcaps, a Continental concept tire with 4.9 kg/tonne rolling resistance, an electromechanical rear brake that ditches hydraulic fluid, and a 370 W solar system in the glass roof and boot lid adding up to 30 km of range per day.

- VW brand CEO Thomas Schäfer called the concept "technology for the masses — not just for the few," though VW confirmed the Mission Efficiency itself is "not for sale" and is positioned as a demonstration of production EV capability.
Why it matters: The Mission Efficiency proves 9 miles per kWh is achievable on the MEB+ platform using ID. Polo components — so its aero addenda, low-rolling-resistance tires, electromechanical brakes, and solar roof could reach affordable EVs, unlike the XL1's 250-unit carbon-fiber run. A production car doing roughly 9 mi/kWh needs a fraction of the battery to deliver real range, undercutting the industry's pack-size arms race.
