UK Records Hottest June Day at 36C

- UK temperature reached 36.0C in Wisley, Surrey on Wednesday afternoon, setting a new June record that surpassed the previous mark of 35.6C set in 1957 and equalled in 1976.
- Met Office extended its red extreme heat warning further south toward England's south coast, in effect across parts of southern England, the Midlands, and south Wales until 11:59pm Thursday — the first red warning ever issued for Wales and only the second anywhere in the UK.
- An amber warning for extreme heat covers a wider area of England for all of Friday, with an additional amber warning focused on the east and south-east on Saturday.
- Overnight temperatures across Wales, the Midlands, and south-east England are not expected to fall below 21-23C, likely producing the warmest June night on record and potentially beating the current UK/England overnight record of 22.7C set in 1979.
- High humidity pushed "feels like" temperatures into the low 40s Celsius, while the Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for south-west England running from 6pm to 11:59pm Thursday.
- Maximum temperatures are still forecast to fall short of the UK's all-time high of 40.3C set in 2022.
