Netflix 'Summer Will Be Different' Casts Lead Trio

- Netflix greenlit its adaptation of Carley Fortune's "This Summer Will Be Different" in March 2024, with the series now in production on Prince Edward Island — the setting of L.M. Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables."
- Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief, Yellowjackets) was cast as protagonist Lucy Ashby, with Roby Attal and Francesca Reale (Stranger Things) tapped as the Clark siblings Felix "Wolf" and Bridget.
- Six recurring cast members were also announced alongside the production start: Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Tom Barnett as Peter, and Celia Owen as Joy.
- Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers, with directing duties shared by Karen Maine (Nobody Wants This), Jasmin Mozaffari (Ginny & Georgia), and Fab Filippo (Sort Of).
- The adaptation follows Fortune's 2024 novel about Lucy rushing to help her best friend Bridget with a wedding while fighting a years-old attraction to the bride's brother Felix — the third of Bridget's three rules for Lucy's PEI visits.
- Fortune's growing slate now spans both major streamers: Prime Video's "Every Year After" recently earned a Season 2 renewal, "One Golden Summer" will source that second season, and "Meet Me At The Lake" is separately in development at Netflix with Archewell Productions.
Why it matters: Carley Fortune now has adaptations actively in production or development at both Netflix and Prime Video simultaneously, positioning her as a rare romance author with a cross-platform footprint — and the PEI filming taps into the island's established literary-tourism economy anchored by Anne of Green Gables.
