- BYD released official sketches of the second-generation "Great Seagull" EV, showing "trident-shaped" front and rear lights and a "brand new layout," ahead of a planned China launch by end of 2026.
- MIIT regulatory filing revealed the new Seagull measures 4,205 mm long with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, considerably larger than the current model's 3,780 mm length.
- The updated EV gains a 95 kW (127 hp) motor, nearly double the current 55 kW (75 hp), and is expected to carry BYD's second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology.
- Undisguised spy images surfaced a roof-mounted LiDAR, suggesting the new Seagull will run BYD's God's Eye B ADAS system.
- The redesigned interior features a two-spoke steering wheel, a slightly larger infotainment screen, no instrument cluster, and a row of physical buttons below the center A/C vents.
- The current Seagull starts at 69,900 yuan (~$10,000) in China and €22,900 ($26,500) in Europe as the Dolphin Surf, with the larger variant expected to stay under €30,000 ($35,000) overseas.
- The Seagull family — including the Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini — ranked as the sixth best-selling EV globally in H1 2026 with over 27,500 units sold.
Why it matters: BYD's entry Seagull is already one of the world's cheapest EVs at roughly $10,000 in China. The second-generation model stretches the wheelbase 425 mm and nearly doubles motor output while likely remaining under €30,000 in Europe as the Dolphin Surf — applying BYD's price-pressure playbook to Europe's small-EV segment while rolling ADAS and battery upgrades previously reserved for pricier models.
