- Xiaomi launched the YU7 "Standard Edition" at RMB 233,500 (~$32,400), undercutting the Tesla Model Y by RMB 30,000 ($4,350) while delivering 643 km of CLTC range versus the Model Y's 593 km.
- CEO Lei Jun publicly admitted onstage that the original YU7's RMB 10,000 price gap versus Tesla wasn't competitive enough to consistently outsell the Model Y, prompting the new trim and a lineup restructure that rebrands the prior base as the "Long Range Edition."
- The new YU7 Standard packs a 235 kW single-motor RWD drivetrain, a CATL LFP battery on a 752V platform, and comes standard with air suspension, LiDAR, 4D radar, and the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor platform (700 TOPS) — with all driver-assistance features free for life, no subscription.
- Xiaomi also unveiled the 1,003-HP YU7 GT starting at RMB 389,900 (~$54,100), which set a Nürburgring Nordschleife SUV record of 7:22.755 on April 2 — beating the Audi RS Q8's mark by 14 seconds.
- The YU7 GT uses Xiaomi's HyperEngine V8s EVO motor spinning to 28,000 rpm paired with a front Inovance motor, hits 0-100 km/h in 2.92 seconds with a 300 km/h top speed, and features dual-valve CDC dampers, an electronic limited-slip differential, and Akebono carbon-ceramic brakes.
- Xiaomi has shipped over 600,000 EVs in under two years, with the YU7 series delivering 232,000 units since June 2024 and a 550,000-unit 2026 target — the new trim arrives as YU7 sales cooled after clearing the initial order backlog and the Model Y retook China's #1 NEV spot in March.
Why it matters: Lei Jun's rare public admission that the YU7's pricing fell short, followed by a $4,350 undercut with 50 km more range than the Model Y, lands as a direct shot at the SUV that retook China's #1 NEV sales spot in March. The Standard Edition is the volume play; the GT's Nürburgring record is the halo car to draw eyeballs.
