BYD Great Han EV: 1,008 km Range, August Debut

- BYD confirmed its flagship Great Han (DaHan) electric sedan will deliver a CLTC range of 1,008 km (626 miles) on a single charge, with battery specs still to be announced.
- Lu Tian, BYD's Dynasty series general manager, said the Great Han will debut at the Chengdu Motor Show (August 21–30, 2026) and teased that "more surprises await."
- The Great Han uses BYD's new Blade Battery 2.0 with Flash Charging technology, enabling a 10% to 70% recharge in 5 minutes at 1,500 kW, and a near-full 10% to 97% charge in just 9 minutes.
- The Great Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, making it larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air and closer in size to the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.
- The Great Han will be available in single-motor (370 kW / 496 hp) and dual-motor AWD (570 kW / 764 hp) configurations.
- BYD's Great Tang SUV, the sedan sibling, received over 100,000 preorders after orders opened at the April Beijing Auto Show, with presale prices starting at 250,000 yuan ($37,000).
Why it matters: BYD is positioning the Great Han as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, matching or exceeding them on dimensions and range. With its sibling Great Tang SUV pulling 100,000+ preorders at ~$37,000, a similarly priced sedan could pressure premium EV pricing. The 1,500 kW Flash Charging spec (10% to 70% in 5 minutes) sets a new public benchmark for fast-charging.
