- BYD's Denza Z was spotted undisguised in near-production form ahead of its official launch at July's Goodwood Festival of Speed, after its April unveiling at the Beijing Auto Show
- The Denza Z packs three electric motors on the e3 platform delivering over 1,000 hp (750 kW) and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time under 2 seconds, with a convertible hardtop, a soft-top, and a separate track-edition variant — the last already seen testing at the Nürburgring
- Wolfgang Egger, former Lamborghini and Audi designer and BYD's global design director, led the exterior design under BYD's 'Pure Emotion' theme with carbon-fiber bodywork and active hood air ducts for downforce
- The Denza Z runs BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 with Flash Charging, which the company says can take the pack from 10% to 97% in nine minutes
- Expected WLTP range sits near 599 km (372 miles), and pricing will likely come in slightly above the Denza Z9 GT, which is already open for European preorders at €115,000 ($134,500)
Why it matters: BYD is gunning for Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche with a supercar that pairs a former Lamborghini designer's styling with three-motor, 1,000+ hp performance and a sub-two-second 0-62 mph time. Priced just above the Z9 GT's €115,000 ($134,500) European preorder mark, the Denza Z threatens to undercut European rivals on cost while matching them on straight-line speed and leapfrogging on charging technology.
