- FilmLEX partnered with the Location Managers Guild International on “From Page to Place: The Art of Location Management,” a two-day workshop scheduled for November 6-7 for college and high school students, emerging talent and local crew.
- Location Managers Guild International will feature Andrea Keener, Todd Christensen, Mike Fantasia and Dennis Muscari, whose listed credits include Killers of the Flower Moon, Top Gun: Maverick, Oppenheimer and Breaking Bad; the two days include hands-on training, mentorship and networking.
- FilmLEX says students from eight regional colleges and universities will participate, including the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University and Transylvania University, alongside area high school students.
- Lisa Brin called the partnership a “first step” in strengthening Central Kentucky’s production workforce; Danny Finn said investing in the next generation and introducing new talent are necessary to sustain production.
- FilmLEX is building a deeper local pool across location management, producing, assistant directing, production design, editorial and on-camera talent to support a robust Central Kentucky film and television workforce.
- Kentucky Entertainment Initiative Program offers a fully refundable, non-transferable tax credit of 30%-35%, with a $75 million annual funding cap and a $10 million per-project cap; FilmLEX was launched two years ago to promote the state’s incentives and assist producers on the ground.
Why it matters: Central Kentucky students, emerging talent and local crew gain direct access to four location-management professionals on November 6-7. With eight colleges and universities participating, FilmLEX is using the workshop to introduce new talent, while its broader plan adds five other production disciplines alongside Kentucky’s 30%-35% tax-credit program.
