- Nissan unveiled the Pixo EV on Wednesday, reviving the Pixo name (discontinued in 2013) as its most affordable EV, priced under €20,000 ($23,000) before subsidies and expected to start under $25,000 overall.
- Pixo EV is powered by a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery — Nissan's first LFP battery in a European EV — delivering up to 259 km (161 miles) of WLTP range and charging from 15% to 80% in about 28 minutes via a 50 kW DC fast charger.
- Nissan-Renault partnership underpins the project: the Pixo EV shares its underpinnings with the Renault Twingo and will be produced at Renault's Novo Mesto manufacturing plant in Slovenia.
- Pixo EV ships with Google built-in including Gemini for navigation and route planning, plus ADAS features such as automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and e-Pedal technology.
- The launch enters Europe's electric A-segment, where Chinese automakers BYD and Leapmotor have driven a surge of low-cost EVs, and where Volkswagen (ID. Polo) and Dacia (Spring) are mounting a counter-offensive.
- US buyers will miss the Pixo EV entirely, as Nissan developed and built it specifically for European cities; market-specific pricing will be announced in December.
Why it matters: Nissan plants a sub-€20,000 EV into Europe's A-segment that Chinese brands BYD and Leapmotor are flooding, giving the Japanese automaker a price-competitive foothold built on Renault's Twingo platform. US buyers — explicitly excluded from the Slovenia-built Pixo EV — remain on the outside of the affordable-EV wave Nissan is joining in Europe.
