- Nowhere to Lay My Eyes picked up fresh distribution in France with Carlotta Films, Japan with Mimosa Films, Argentina with Kligger and Portugal with The Stone and the Plot, adding to earlier sales across North America, China, Spain, Taiwan, Austria and the U.K.
- Journey There sold to Andrews Film in Taiwan, KDDI Corporation in Japan, Lev Cinema in Israel and Izagur Media in Mongolia, while Kairos Distribution acquired inflight rights.
- Hong Sangsoo’s 35th feature, Nowhere to Lay My Eyes, won best direction, best performance and the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 79th Locarno Film Festival.
- Journey There was released in Korea on Oct. 28 as the first Korean production starring Justin H. Min; it was also invited to the Moscow International Film Festival, New York Asian Film Festival and the Paris and London Korean film festivals.
- Long Long Night will receive its first buyer screening at AFM in an English-dubbed version, with invitations from Toronto, Busan and Sitges.
- Finecut heads to AFM with a slate that also includes Dora, selected for Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and Busan’s Gala Presentation, and Wi-Fi Love in the Palace, a period fantasy romance starring Kim Young-hoon of The Boyz.
Why it matters: For Finecut, the batch brings nine distribution commitments: eight territory deals across seven countries and one inflight-rights sale. The material change is concrete market access—named distributors now hold specific country rights, while Kairos holds “Journey There”’s inflight rights, giving the slate broader commercial reach.
